Brief Bio/Personal Statement Karen L. Allen is a licensed clinical social worker in the District of Columbia and Maryland. She holds a Masters in social work from the Howard University, and her Bachelor in Business Administration from the Baruch College in New York City. Karen L. Allen is a therapist specializing in individual, couples and family therapy and maintains a private practice in Bowie, MD. With over 15 years’ experience as an individual, group and family therapy, as a graduate of Howard University School of Social Work utilizing a holistic approach to recovery and resilience. She is currently serving as private practitioner working with a broad spectrum of clients. In addition to being a prominent relationship development therapist, Karen Allen has extensive experiences in many areas in the field of social work. Karen Allen is an interactive, solution-focused therapist. Her therapeutic approach is to provide support and practical feedback to help clients effectively address personal life challenges. She integrates complementary methodologies and techniques to offer a highly personalized approach tailored to each client. With compassion and understanding, she works with each individual to help them build on their strengths and attain the personal growth they are committed to accomplishing. After evaluation, if necessary, those clients that need supportive therapies are referred accordingly and Ms Allen works collaboratively to ensure that the client receives the most effective care leading up to their eventual healing and mental health care. She has worked as an Adjunct Professor at Howard University School of Social Work. In addition, Ms. Allen is a consultant that has had extensive experiences working with adults, children and families in various arenas such as child welfare, homeless services, mental health and many other populations for the over 28 years in different capacities. She is a passionate caregiver and administrator. She has trained many professionals in various topics such as effective case management strategies, individual and group therapy, ethics, stress management, mental health issues, trauma, loss, crisis management and much more. Ms. Allen is passionate about the development and training of young professionals and continues to impact numerous rising professionals nationally. Ms. Allen was the Director of Clinical Services at the MedStar Washington Hospital Center-Outpatient Behavioral Center where she managed the delivery of therapeutic services to the community. Previously she was a Clinical Manager at Contemporary Therapeutic Services in Hyattsville where she supervised the clinical operations of a cutting edge mental health organization which focuses on community based in-home therapy. She has also served as an Executive Director for the Boys Home Society of Baltimore, Inc. where she oversaw the operations of 18 adolescent boys. Ms. Allen is a member, and previously the National Corresponding Secretary and a Past President of the Metro DC Chapter of the National Association of Black Social Workers where she works diligently to bring about change on behalf of social workers and the persons they serve particularly in the African-American Community. Ms. Allen is also the proud mother of two beautiful children, a daughter and an adult son and a beautiful granddaughter.
